McMullen Oakland
In 2018, while celebrating McMullen’s ten year anniversary, we made our Oakland debut in Uptown, on the corner of W Grand and Broadway. Our dedicated Flagship location has 2800 sq ft of curated fashion and hosts intimate experiences. The interior was designed by Chloe Redmond Aldrich and her team at Redmond Aldrich Design. The Oakland location provides an understated setting for our women’s apparel and accessories featuring blush pink walls, an exposed ceiling, velvet mauve fitting room drapes, and a colorful terrazzo tile entryway.
The space is a reflection of Founder and CEO, Sherri McMullen’s creative eye as a retailer while also encompassing some of her personal inspirations. The colorful space is peppered with 1970s polaroids of the women who inspired McMullen’s vision- her aunt, grandmother and mother.
Staying true to her roots was important for Sherri when thinking through the details of the new space. McMullen is the only store in America to feature custom mannequins powder-coated in a variety of skin-tones, ranging from pale to deep brown.

It was important to me that if a young woman of color was walking by the window or came in because she followed me on Instagram, that she’d see herself reflected in the store. I want her to know that there’s a place for her in this world, in fashion.
